Samsung Electronics has completed its year-end organizational restructuring and personnel appointments. Similar to the regular president and executive appointments that maintained the 'two-top' system with Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee and President Kyung Kye-hyun to pursue stability, the organizational restructuring is also analyzed to have chosen practical changes within stability. Samsung Electronics plans to hold a global strategy meeting next week at the earliest, gathering all executives to establish next year's business strategy.
On the 4th, Samsung Electronics finalized the organizational restructuring and personnel appointments, concluding the year-end appointments by holding briefing sessions with executives from each division called to the headquarters. Since the scope of president and executive appointments was smaller than last year, it is known that there were no major changes.
In the Device Solutions (DS) division, President Lee Jung-bae of the Memory Business Unit, President Park Yong-in of the System LSI Business Unit, President Choi Si-young of the Foundry Business Unit, and in the Device Experience (DX) division, President Noh Tae-moon of the Mobile Experience (MX) Business Unit and President Kim Woo-joon of the Network Business Unit were retained. However, President Lee Won-jin, head of the MX Business Unit Service Business Team, stepped down from his position.
President Lee, a former Google Vice President, was recruited in 2014 as head of the Service Business Team of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display (VD) Business Unit. From 2020, he served as head of the Wireless Business Unit Service Business Team, contributing to strengthening the service business competitiveness across the set division. Recognizing his achievements, he was promoted to president in July 2021.
President Lee's successors will be Vice Presidents Kim Yong-soo and Han Sang-sook. Vice President Kim, an expert in service and software businesses with experience at Oracle and Google in the U.S., is expected to be responsible for the platform and services of the VD Business Unit. Vice President Han, an internal candidate, will oversee the platform and services of the MX Business Unit.
Among the DX division's domestic and international general managers, Vice President Lim Sung-taek will take charge of Korea. The Korea general manager is responsible for sales and marketing of key domestic businesses such as smartphones and TVs. The new Korea general manager, Lim, born in 1966, previously served as head of Samsung Electronics Italy (SEI) and managed the Middle East region. Vice President Kang Bong-gu, who served as Korea general manager since 2020, will retire.
In the DS division, Chairman Kim Ki-nam of SAIT (formerly Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology) will step down to an advisory role. Although some viewed that President Kyung Kye-hyun would concurrently serve as head of the DS division and SAIT, jointly leading with Chairman Kim, it is reported that Chairman Kim will only serve as an advisor related to new business technologies at Samsung Electronics.
In this organizational restructuring, the DS division reorganized the System LSI Business Unit into three business teams: System on Chip (SoC) Business Team, LSI Business Team, and Image Sensor Business Team, transitioning to a three-team structure. This is interpreted as an effort to specialize in order to achieve the goal of becoming the number one system semiconductor company by 2030.
The newly established organization 'Future Business Planning Group,' directly under the CEO, reportedly includes two vice president-level personnel from the DX and DS divisions. Compared to the past organization with a similar nature, the New Business Promotion Group, it is estimated to be composed of about 10 to 20 members under Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun, who serves as the head.

Having completed all regular appointments for next year, Samsung Electronics plans to hold a global strategy meeting as early as next week to discuss next year's business plans. Samsung Electronics' global strategy meetings are held twice a year, in June and December, where key executives and heads of overseas subsidiaries gather to share current issues by business division and region and exchange opinions on sales strategies. Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee, head of the DX division, and President Kyung Kye-hyun, head of the DS division, will each preside over the meetings.
