Ministry of Industry Holds Seminar on 'EU Environmental Regulation Response Strategies' for Companies
On the 5th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 'International Environmental Regulation Response Seminar' at the Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, explaining the trends of major countries' environmental regulations and response measures to companies.
The Ministry explained that since the European Union (EU) has been intensifying environmental regulations recently in areas such as carbon emissions and chemical substances, this year it focused on explaining the EU's environmental regulations to companies.
Specifically, analyses and explanations were provided on the battery regulations that came into effect last August, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) which entered its pilot implementation phase last month, and the ongoing legislative process for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) regulations. Support measures such as the government-operated 'CBAM-related Corporate Helpdesk' and the 'International Environmental Regulation Corporate Support Center' were also introduced.
The Ministry also provided guidance on response directions for environmental regulation-related bills expected to be enacted and implemented next year, including the EU Ecodesign Regulation, the EU Critical Raw Materials Act, and the French Electric Vehicle Subsidy Act.
