Gwanak-gu Selected as Best Practice for Solitary Death Prevention
Received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award as the Best Local Government in the Field of 'Establishing Policy Foundations for Solitary Death Prevention and Management'
Presented Gwanak-gu's Best Practices at the 2nd Social Isolation and Solitary Death Prevention Forum
The likelihood of solitary deaths continues to increase due to family disintegration and the rising proportion of single-person households.
In response, Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Junhee) is making every effort to prevent solitary deaths and identify households in crisis.
In January of this year, the 'Gwanak Life Love TF (Task Force) Team' was formed to analyze risk factors for solitary deaths, develop systematic countermeasures, and carefully monitor the safety of residents.
Additionally, the district has planned and implemented various projects including ▲establishing a public-private council for solitary death prevention ▲focused monitoring of high-risk groups ▲reinforcing dedicated personnel for welfare checks of high-risk groups ▲the 'Sharing a Happy Meal' program combining welfare checks with meal support ▲and case management for isolated and reclusive households.
Last November, the district conducted 'Solitary Death Prevention Awareness Training' for all employees to strengthen their on-site response capabilities to solitary deaths.
Recently, these efforts were recognized when Gwanak-gu was selected as the top local government in the 'Solitary Death Prevention and Management Policy Foundation' category at the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 'Excellent Cases of Local Government Solitary Death Prevention Projects' evaluation, receiving the Minister of Health and Welfare Award.
This excellent case evaluation was conducted nationwide among local governments to discover and share outstanding solitary death prevention cases and to enhance the capacity for solitary death prevention work.
On November 30, the district attended the '2nd Social Isolation and Solitary Death Prevention Forum,' where it presented its excellent cases before solitary death prevention officers and integrated case managers from local governments across the country, publicizing its efforts nationwide.
