57 Years Dedicated to Publishing... Beomwusa Chairman Yoon Hyung-doo Passes Away
Yoon Hyung-doo, chairman of Beomwoo Co., Ltd. and former president of the Korea Publishing Culture Association, passed away on the 3rd due to old age, the Publishing Culture Association announced on the 4th. He was 87 years old.
Born in 1935 in Kobe, Japan, the late Mr. Yoon graduated from Dongguk University with a degree in law and entered the publishing industry, founding Beomwoo Publishing in 1966. In addition to Beomwoo, he served as the publisher of monthly magazines Dari and Books and Life.
Since publishing its first book in 1967, Beomwoo Publishing planned and published series such as the Beomwoo Classics Series, the Luise Rinser Collected Works, the Thought Series, the Essay Library, and the Sarvia Library in the 1970s. From the 1980s, it introduced domestic and international classics to readers through editions like the Critical Edition World Literature Series and Beomwoo Library.
In 1991, he established the Beomwoo Publishing Scholarship Foundation to provide scholarships for nurturing publishing talent. Since 2003, he has worked to promote publishing culture through the Beomwoo Publishing Culture Foundation.
He served as the 47th president of the Korea Publishing Culture Association (2011?2013), chairman of the Korea Publishing Cooperative (1988), president of the Korean Publishing Society (1989?1992), and chairman of the Korea Publishing Culture Promotion Foundation (2006?2010). He received numerous awards including the Bogwan Order of Cultural Merit, the Peony Medal of the Order of Civil Merit, the Presidential Citation, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Citation, the Seoul City Culture Award, and the Baeksang Special Award for Publishing Culture. He earned a Master of Arts in Literature (majoring in publishing and magazines) from Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Journalism and Mass Communication and received an honorary doctorate in publishing from Suncheon National University. He published over 20 books including essays and research works related to publishing.
He is survived by his wife Kang Young-mae, and children Yoon Jae-min (CEO of Beomwoo Publishing), Yoon Jae-jun (professor at Seoul Digital University), and Yoon Sung-hye (CEO of Yoon Art).

The funeral will be held at Shinchon Severance Hospital Funeral Hall, Room 17. The memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on the 6th. The burial site is Jangheung Shinsegye Park Cemetery.
