Chosun University Hospital Wins 'Excellence Award' at Disaster Emergency Medical Comprehensive Training Competition
Chosun University Hospital (Director Kim Kyung-jong) announced on the 4th that it won the Excellence Award, the Director of the National Medical Center Award, in the tabletop exercise category at the '2023 Disaster Emergency Medical Comprehensive Training Competition.'
The Disaster Emergency Medical Comprehensive Training Competition is held annually to familiarize response agencies with their roles in disaster situations and to strengthen the cooperation system among related organizations. It is hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and organized by the Central Emergency Medical Center of the National Medical Center.
This year, the event was held on the 23rd and 24th of last month at the JEI Talent Education Training Center in Cheonan.
The training aimed to familiarize related agencies (public health centers, disaster base hospitals, fire departments) with their roles and tasks at each stage of disaster medical response, from initial medical support at the disaster site to the establishment and operation of on-site emergency medical posts, and to strengthen the cooperation system.
In the training participated by 15 cities and provinces (excluding Sejong and Gyeonggi), Chosun University Hospital represented Gwangju Metropolitan City with a team of 10 members: 4 from the Rapid Response Team of Dong-gu Public Health Center in Gwangju, 4 from the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) of Chosun University Hospital, and 1 each from Gwangsan Fire Station and Bukbu Fire Station.
Jo Soo-hyung, Director of the Gwangju Emergency Medical Support Center at the National Medical Center and Professor of Emergency Medicine at Chosun University Hospital, said, “We were able to achieve a rewarding result because we prepared for the competition in collaboration with the Gwangju Emergency Medical Support Center in advance,” adding, “We will continue to contribute to making our region the safest from disasters through realistic disaster drills in cooperation with local governments.”

Meanwhile, Chosun University Hospital was recognized for its active participation in the safety of local residents through training linked with local governments, including workplace civil defense training in September and deriving improvement tasks after the training, contributing to the elite formation of the civil defense corps, and was awarded the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award.
