Daesang Poet Ko Jaejong's 'Dokgak' Prize 20 Million Won, New Poet Award Poet Oh Purang Prize 10 Million Won
On the 4th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it held the award ceremony for the 11th Songsun Literary Award.
The Songsun Literary Award is a literary prize established to honor the literary spirit of Songsun, a native of Damyang, to expand the base of literature, and to contribute to the development of Korean literature by awarding capable literary figures, thereby widely promoting Damyang as a city of fine arts.
The 11th Songsun Literary Award was divided into two categories: the ‘Grand Prize’ (with a prize of 20 million won) and the ‘New Poet Award’ (with a prize of 10 million won).
The Grand Prize was selected from outstanding poetry collections published between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023, while the New Poet Award was chosen through a poetry contest held from June 1 to June 30, 2023.
As a result of the judging, the Grand Prize was awarded to poet Ko Jae-jong’s work ‘Dokgak,’ and the New Poet Award went to poet Oh Hoo-rang (with 50 poems including ‘There is a Mackerel in Your Calf’).
‘Dokgak’ was highly praised by the judges for its dense concentration and weight of language, poetic connectivity, and the firmness in pursuing its own beginning, which together created a refined poetic world.
The contest submission by poet Oh Hoo-rang, recipient of the New Poet Award, impressed the judges with its poetic skill and balanced sensibility in depicting sorrow through lively and light language, as well as its expression of life’s sorrow in a sensory language.
