Dedicated Organization for Successful Island Expo... Expo Promotion in Full Swing
Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that on the 8th, it will hold the launch ceremony of the (Foundation) 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Organizing Committee at Yeosu Culture Hall, officially kicking off the promotion of the expo.
The “(Foundation) 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Organizing Committee” will be composed of about 20 executives and a secretariat structured as 1 office, 2 headquarters, 1 office room, and 8 departments. It will be responsible for roles such as venue construction, exhibition production, event operation, promotion, revenue projects, and attracting participating countries and visitors.
The launch ceremony will be attended by various figures including Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do and co-chairman of the organizing committee, Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu, heads of institutions and organizations, promoters, executives, island-related organizations, and citizens from all walks of life.
In particular, Ko Ki-dong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the main government department in charge, will attend to support the organizing committee’s successful first step.
The event plans to actively promote the expo through a success ceremony and vision declaration performance for the expo, with island residents from different regions of Yeosu directly participating to connect island to island.
Additionally, after the commemorative event, the inaugural general meeting will hold detailed discussions on changing the expo’s schedule and extending its duration, appointing a private sector chairman, and establishing regulations, drawing considerable interest and expectations.
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu said, “With the launch of the organizing committee, the preparations Yeosu City has made for the successful hosting of the Islands Expo will gain more momentum,” adding, “Going forward, with the full support of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and in unity with Jeollanam-do, we will successfully host the Islands Expo and create a second leap forward for Yeosu, the island city everyone dreams of.”
Meanwhile, since the international event approval of the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo in August 2021, Yeosu City has swiftly proceeded with establishment procedures such as drafting the establishment plan for the organizing committee, feasibility review, promoters’ general meeting, and registration from September 2022, shortening the establishment period by about four months compared to other expos that typically take more than a year and a half, ensuring smooth preparation for the expo.
