Seocho-gu Selects 36 Works in the '1st Seocho-gu Public Design & Idea Contest'... Imiri Wins 'Public Design Category' for Youth with 'Seoripullis Chair'
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) selected Imiri's "Seoripullis Chair" and Yusoyeon's "Clean Yangjaecheon We Create" as the grand prize winners in the "2023 Seocho-gu Public Design & Idea Contest."
Earlier, the district held the contest in August divided into ▲"Public Design Category" for youth and ▲"Design Idea Category" for residents to apply "public design for rest facilities harmonizing with nature in the urban area."
Afterward, the judging committee reviewed and selected a total of 36 works: 16 in the "Public Design Category" and 20 in the "Idea Category."
First, in the "Public Design for Youth" category, Imiri's "Seoripullis Chair" won the grand prize. "Seoripullis" is a compound word combining the auspicious grass "Seoripul" and "fullness," meaning everything. It is characterized by a chair form without a backrest or armrests, featuring beautiful artistry, harmony with the surroundings, and a variable configuration. Notably, it can be used diversely as a chair, table, or shelter, and is comfortable for people of all ages and genders, which earned high marks.
The excellence awards went to Kim Gayoung and two others for "0 Zone: Coexistence (共存)" and Yoo Jaesung and one other for "We're Busy (Batpat)." "Coexistence" received good scores for its design of pathways considerate of mobility-impaired people, creating a lively resting space above Seoripul Park. "We're Busy (Batpat)" was praised by judges for creating a space where nature and residents communicate through a participatory flower garden.
In the "Design Idea for Residents" category, Yusoyeon's "Clean Yangjaecheon We Create" was selected as the grand prize winner. Its innovative ideas, such as operating a plogging zone, stood out, and it was highly evaluated for enabling residents' continuous participation through public design and presenting a positive influence.
Going forward, the district plans to sign usage agreements with the winners and utilize the designs as public rest facility designs along walking paths and riverbanks next year.
