Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam, Successfully Hosts Goseong Eagle Ecology Festival
Symposium and Various Experience Events Held
Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held the "4th Goseong Eagle Ecology Festival" from the 1st to the 3rd at the Goseong Ecological Experience Center area, 251-3 Giwol-ri, Goseong-eup.
This festival was organized by the Goseong Ecotourism Association, mainly composed of local residents.
On the first day, the 1st, an academic symposium titled "Birds and Ecotourism" was held to promote the conservation and management of biological resources and the activation of ecotourism. Various experts were invited to share diverse policies for bird protection and to explore ways for local governments to further develop these efforts.
On the opening day, the 2nd, the opening ceremony included the naming of eagles, eagle performance art with local children, and the release of eagles.
In particular, before releasing injured eagles back into nature, they were given names (Himnari, Himchani, Cheongsuri) and wing tags were attached, hoping that the eagles would return to the wild in good health. This release event deeply moved the spectators.
The opening ceremony was attended by Lee Sang-geun, the county governor, local provincial and county council members, and the head of the Goseong Office of Education, who congratulated the event. About 2,000 residents and tourists welcomed the eagles that came to Goseong and participated in various prepared experiential activities, celebrating the festival's opening together.
Experiential activities included ▲ eagle birdwatching ▲ flying eagle paper planes ▲ long jump like a grasshopper ▲ making eagle hats ▲ decorating eagle light panels (neon signs) ▲ making eagle wind chimes, providing programs that families could enjoy together. Upon completing the stamp tour by collecting stamps from the activities, participants were given eagle bread tasting coupons, adding to the enjoyment.
Especially, a “instant family photo” area was set up where visitors could take photos with eagle characters (Kkosuri, Mongsuri), print them, and take framed pictures home, offering many attendees a memorable gift.
Lee Kyung-yeol, president of the Goseong Ecotourism Association, said, “We thank everyone who visited and participated in the eagle festival, now in its fourth year. We will continue to strive to preserve the endangered eagle species while developing Goseong ecotourism utilizing them.”
