"Hamas Violates Agreement" Israel Declares Resumption of Combat in Gaza Strip
Impact of Rocket Fire Near Gaza Strip on Final Day of Temporary Ceasefire
On the last day of the temporary ceasefire, the 1st (local time), the Israeli military declared the resumption of combat in the Gaza Strip, accusing the Palestinian armed faction Hamas of violating the ceasefire agreement.
According to the Guardian and other sources, the Israeli military stated that "Hamas violated the ceasefire and fired towards Israeli territory," and resumed combat against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Israel and Hamas had agreed to a four-day ceasefire starting on the 24th of last month, on the condition of exchanging hostages held by Hamas and Palestinians imprisoned in Israel, and subsequently extended the ceasefire twice, for two days and one day respectively.
On the morning of the day the six-day ceasefire expired, at 7 a.m. (2 p.m. Korean time), both sides were discussing extending the ceasefire. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) also reported that the two sides were expected to extend the ceasefire for a third time by one day.
However, about an hour before the ceasefire deadline expired, rocket alert sirens sounded in Israeli areas near the Gaza Strip border. This was the first time rocket alert sirens had sounded since the ceasefire between the two sides.
