Phillips Instead of Biden, Haley Instead of Trump... US Wall Street Titans Backing Third-Party Candidates
Prominent figures on Wall Street in the United States have publicly expressed their support for a third-party candidate instead of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, who are expected to have a rematch in next year's U.S. presidential election.
Jamie Dimon, Chairman of JP Morgan Chase, said at the New York Times DealBook Summit held on the 29th (local time) that former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley could be a good alternative to former President Trump as the Republican presidential candidate. In his speech at the event, Dimon said, "Even if you are a very progressive Democrat supporter, I urge you to also support Haley."
He added, "I know there are people who benefited under the Trump administration who line up behind him," and said, "(I) do not want Trump to return to politics." He also said, "We need to choose a Republican candidate who can be better than Trump."
The U.S. economic media CNBC noted that Dimon's remarks came amid a growing wave of support for former Ambassador Haley among Wall Street heavyweights. Haley has recently emerged as an 'anti-Trump' figure in the Republican presidential primary. The day before, the conservative billionaire Charles Koch-led political action committee Americans for Prosperity (AFP) announced its support for Haley. Stanley Druckenmiller, known as the 'legend of hedge funds,' hedge fund Citadel founder Ken Griffin, and real estate mogul Barry Sternlicht have also declared their support for Haley.
On the same day, hedge fund magnate Bill Ackman, Chairman of Pershing Square Capital, directly criticized President Biden, whose age controversy continues, saying he should step down as a presidential candidate. In an interview with Bloomberg TV, he expressed concern about the elderly President Biden serving another four years, saying, "(Voters) need to exercise their best intellectual abilities. I do not think Biden will be their choice. Biden has already peaked in physical and cognitive abilities."
As a Democratic candidate to replace President Biden, he put forward Congressman Dean Phillips. He pointed out, "Biden has done a lot of good things, but if he is nominated again as the Democratic presidential candidate, his achievements will not be viewed positively." He added, "I recently met Congressman Phillips and was impressed by him." Phillips, a three-term congressman, declared his participation in the Democratic primary last month, advocating for generational change amid weakening support for President Biden.
He said, "I am more open to Republican candidates (not former President Trump) than to Biden's re-election," and expressed support for former Ambassador Haley and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who became famous as 'anti-Trump.' Regarding Vivek Ramaswamy, a billionaire businessman from the U.S., he said he was "disappointed" with his geopolitical views related to the Ukraine war, according to Bloomberg News.

Ramaswamy disparaged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a "comedian in cargo pants," saying "Ukraine is not worth defending" during the third Republican presidential candidate debate held earlier this month. Ramaswamy, who published the book "Woke, Inc." criticizing hypocritical political correctness, established an asset management firm named Strive in May and raised $20 million in investments from Wall Street heavyweights including Chairman Ackman. He is currently polling third or fourth in the Republican primary candidate surveys.
