KMA: Magnitude 4.0 Earthquake Occurs 19km Southeast of Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk (Update)
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 occurred at 4:55:24 AM on the 30th, 19 km southeast of Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk.
The KMA initially reported an estimated magnitude of 4.3 based on automatic estimation using the fast-moving primary seismic waves (P-waves), but later revised the magnitude down to 4.0 after detailed manual analysis.

View original imageThe epicenter is located at 35.79 degrees north latitude and 129.42 degrees east longitude. The instrumental intensity was 'Ⅴ' in Gyeongbuk, 'Ⅳ' in Ulsan, and 'Ⅲ' in Gyeongnam, Daegu, and Busan. At intensity level Ⅴ, almost everyone feels the shaking, dishes and windows may break, and unstable objects may fall. At level Ⅳ, many people indoors feel the earthquake, some may wake up at night, and dishes and windows shake. At level Ⅲ, people indoors, especially those on upper floors of buildings, feel it noticeably, and stationary cars may shake slightly.

The KMA advised, "People in areas near the earthquake epicenter may feel the seismic shaking, so please pay attention to safety," and added, "Please refer to information regarding aftershocks and other related updates."
