Kim Hyung-mi, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, "Budget Cuts for Tourism and Others Must Be Reconsidered"
The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 27th that it unanimously passed the "Resolution Urging a Complete Reconsideration of Budget Cuts in Tourism, Culture, and Arts," which was proposed by Representative Kim Hyung-mi.
Representative Kim stated, "Gwangju Metropolitan City is also facing a severe crisis in tourism and cultural projects due to the worst financial difficulties. Major projects such as the construction of the second exhibition hall of the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center, the establishment of Gwangju's representative library planned on the site of the Sangmu incineration plant, and the second exhibition hall of the Biennale have all been significantly adjusted."
She continued, "Among special and metropolitan cities nationwide, the proportion of youth culture and arts budgets ranked lowest in Gwangju, following Ulsan at 1.6%. While individuals from the Gwangju region are actively contributing to the global K-culture industry, budget cuts were made despite the need for active support for tourism, culture, and arts organizations in Gwangju."
She added, "Along with reconsidering the budget cuts, I propose listening to voices from the field and preparing budgets and support measures as practical policies for the development of tourism, culture, and the arts in Gwangju."
