Choe Jong-gu, Former Financial Services Commission Chairman, Appointed as Chair of Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Organizing Committee
Kim Jae-yeol IOC Member and Other Advisory Committee Members Join
Former Financial Services Commission Chairman Choi Jong-gu has been appointed as the representative organizing chairman for the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games. On the afternoon of the 27th, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon presented the appointment certificate at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art's main conference room and urged him to accelerate preparations for the event. He said, "The youth will learn the values of solidarity and empathy, interact with peers from various countries and races, and create unforgettable memories," adding, "Please take care to help the event develop into a sports festival where K-Culture is learned and enjoyed."

He passed the 25th Administrative Examination and has served as a standing member and chairman of the Financial Services Commission. He currently serves as an outside director at Samsung Electro-Mechanics and CJ Corporation. Minister Yoo said, "He is the right person to successfully lead the event by strengthening internal and external communication," and added, "Based on his experience and seniority, he will provide great support to the organizing committee." With Chairman Choi joining, co-organizing chairmen Lee Sang-hwa and Jin Jong-oh will focus their activities on active communication with youth athletes (ages 15 to 18) and promoting the event.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also appointed advisory committee members centered on former officials with experience from the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and vice presidents of major economic organizations. These include Kim Jae-yeol, International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and head of the Global Strategy Office at Samsung Economic Research Institute; Yeo Hyung-gu, former secretary general of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee; Kim Ki-hong, former director of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee Secretariat; Kim Chang-beom, executive vice president of the Korea Economic Association; Lee Dong-geun, executive vice president of the Korea Employers Federation; Woo Tae-hee, executive vice president of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Jung Man-ki, executive vice president of the Korea International Trade Association. A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official said, "By encouraging interest and participation from the business community, we will be able to firmly establish the foundation for the event's success."
