SKT Partners with Southeast Asian IT Company for 'ifland'... Accelerating Global Expansion
SK Telecom is officially launching market expansion by forming partnerships with IT companies in three Southeast Asian countries.
On the 27th, SKT announced that it recently signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) for publishing partnership cooperation related to the metaverse platform ‘ifland’ with three companies: Malaysia’s Celcom Digi, Indonesia’s Agate, and the Philippines’ Cosmic Tech.
Celcom Digi is Malaysia’s leading telecommunications company, Agate is an Indonesian game developer and publisher, and Cosmic Tech is an IoT platform and device manufacturing and distribution company. By signing MOUs with these companies, SKT expects to accelerate the expansion of ifland users in the Southeast Asian region.
According to the agreement, SKT will focus on core areas such as planning services common worldwide, content production, and service operation, while the partners will concentrate on local service activation, including developing localized content, marketing, and first-level customer support.
SKT anticipates that this agreement will benefit both SKT and its partners. The partners can gain experience in the metaverse service business without initial development costs, and SKT expects to timely supply content tailored to specific regions or countries and carry out marketing through the partners.
Prior to signing the MOU with the three companies, SKT began discussions early this year and has been conducting pilot marketing cooperation since July, including opening partner-exclusive ifhome spaces and holding events based on them as part of localization testing.
Additionally, to support these three companies and target the global metaverse market, SKT is developing necessary features such as adding supported languages including Indonesian, Malay, Hindi, and Spanish; a curation function that recommends content based on customer characteristics by access region; and global-level service quality improvements.
SKT plans to provide partners with more administrative rights to ensure smooth regional ifland service provision and activation, and in the long term, it aims to accelerate global expansion by discovering partners in the United States, India, Europe, and other regions.
