Jongno-gu Installs 'Street Trash Bins' Around Bus Stops
To Enhance Citizen Convenience and Improve Urban Aesthetics, 40 Old Trash Bins Replaced in July and 82 Installed This Month... For a Clean Street Environment, Exterior and Floor Washing of Trash Bins and Waste Collection Conducted at Least 3 Times Daily in Downtown Standards
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) has installed a total of 82 street trash bins throughout the district, including areas around bus stops with high foot traffic, to provide convenience to citizens.
Since the implementation of the volume-based waste fee system in 1995, the number of street trash bins has gradually decreased due to complaints from nearby businesses and management issues, causing citizens to express inconvenience as there were no proper places to dispose of trash generated on the streets.
In particular, since January 2018, when carrying disposable cups on city buses was prohibited, requests for installing trash bins around bus stops have continued.
Accordingly, Jongno-gu decided to place trash bins appropriately, focusing on areas with many related complaints.
Earlier this year, the district established a "Plan for Increasing and Improving the Management of Street Trash Bins" and, through a field survey, replaced 40 old trash bins in areas with high waste generation and foot traffic last July.
Following this, with the completion of street trash bin installations this month, it is expected to enhance citizen convenience and improve the urban landscape.
Along with this, Jongno-gu regularly cleans the exterior and bottom of trash bins once a week to create a clean street environment. Waste collection is also conducted three times a day on the outskirts and more than three times a day in the downtown area, exceeding the usual standards.
