Simulated Wildfire at Gaehwasan... Seoul Gangseo-gu Conducts Wildfire Suppression Drill
Jin Gyo-hoon, Mayor of Gangseo District Office in Seoul, participated in the ‘Joint Wildfire Suppression Drill with Related Agencies’ held around Yaksa Temple on Gae-hwa Mountain at 2 p.m. on the 24th to inspect the wildfire response system.
The district conducted the drill on this day to strengthen the cooperation system among related agencies and enhance initial response capabilities in celebration of November as Fire Prevention Emphasis Month.
The drill simulated a scenario where a fire of unknown cause that started inside Yaksa Temple spreads to Gae-hwa Mountain.
A total of five agencies including Gangseo District Office, Gangseo Fire Station, Volunteer Fire Brigade, Gangseo Police Station, and a military unit deployed about 150 personnel to carry out firefighting operations.
More than 40 pieces of equipment, including wildfire suppression water trucks, fire engines, and ambulances, were deployed to create a realistic situation.
The personnel performed their respective duties such as ▲initial firefighting ▲evacuation and rescue activities ▲patient transport ▲damage recovery and restoration, while checking the collaboration system among agencies.
Prior to the drill, the district also conducted a wildfire prevention campaign targeting hikers. Considering that most wildfires are caused by human factors rather than natural disasters, they promoted wildfire prevention precautions and encouraged residents’ participation.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “Since wildfires, as social disasters, cause uncontrollable and significant damage once they occur, we will engage in more thorough prevention activities and swift initial response measures,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen the cooperation system among related agencies to protect residents’ lives and property from disasters.”
