Damyang-gun and Laos Sign Seasonal Worker Business Agreement
Promotion of Seasonal Worker Recruitment Consultation and Pre-Entry Training Facility Visits
On the 24th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it visited the Ministry of Labor, Social Welfare of Laos and Wiangkham County from the 14th for five days to exchange opinions related to the signing of a foreign seasonal worker agreement aimed at enhancing agricultural competitiveness and addressing labor shortages during the busy farming season.
This visit was made to resolve the aging rural population and labor shortages in rural areas.
The county held meetings with the Laotian side regarding the foreign seasonal worker support project, discussed personnel selection, and visited pre-entry training facilities.
On the day, Yoon Jaehyun, Director of Agricultural Distribution, along with two others, and Choi Hyundong, a member of the Damyang County Council, exchanged opinions on cooperation for foreign seasonal worker exchange with Laotian officials including Baikam Kanata, Minister of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, and Phunkaeo Kunphan, Governor of Wiangkham County.
A county official said, “This visit was promoted to respond to the aging rural population and labor shortages that our county is facing. We will continue to implement active agricultural policies to stabilize the agricultural management environment and secure the sustainability of local agriculture.”
Additionally, Damyang-gun plans to strengthen cooperative systems to mutually cooperate and coexist with the Laotian government in various fields such as agricultural product exports and tourism.

Meanwhile, the foreign seasonal worker program is a system that allows foreigners to work for 90 days or five months in industries that require concentrated labor to alleviate labor shortages in rural areas. Damyang-gun has so far signed MOUs with seven local governments in the Philippines and Mongolia to operate this program.
