Democrats Pressure for 'Kim Geon-hee Special Investigation'... "Yoon's Brother-in-law's Phone Seizure Completely Omitted"
"The Only Way to Resolve Allegations Against First Lady Kim Geon-hee Is a 'Special Prosecutor'"
The Democratic Party of Korea raised the pressure on passing the so-called 'Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act' on the 23rd, criticizing the prosecution's 'lenient investigation' of the Kim Geon-hee family.
On the same day, the Democratic Party's Committee for Countermeasures Against Prosecutorial Dictatorship and Political Oppression held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office, stating, "Along with a thorough investigation into the criminal allegations against the president's in-laws, there is another truth that must be revealed," and added, "It is the reality of the 'bodyguard prosecutors' who made the president's in-laws a legal no-man's land, completely ignoring the constitutional principle of 'equality before the law.'"
They said, "The prosecution claims there was no lenient investigation, but considering various circumstances, there is a reasonable suspicion that external pressure seeking 'unfair and biased investigation' was at work," and once again pointed out that Kim Geon-hee's older brother, Kim Jin-woo's cellphone was excluded from the seizure and search targets.
It was explained that during the investigation into the development corruption in the Yangpyeong Gongheung district, the prosecution repeatedly rejected the police's search warrants for Kim Jin-woo and even excluded the cellphone, a key piece of evidence, from the seizure and search targets.
They questioned, "Why is it that the police rejected the search warrants requested for the president's brother-in-law and even excluded the cellphone? What is the reason for such leniency?"
They continued, "The main figure behind this leniency and inadequate investigation is Prosecutor Lee Jeong-hwa, who recently was promoted from the Yeoju branch office to chief prosecutor of the 5th Criminal Division at the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office," and criticized, "Prosecutor Lee Jeong-hwa rejected the police's search warrant that included the cellphone, and later approved the warrant after the police excluded the cellphone. Despite the prosecution's intervention reducing the scope of the search and excluding the cellphone, a key piece of evidence, is this really a 'supplementary investigation'? Anyone can see this is a lenient investigation."
They also said, "At the time, there were suspicions of collusion between Yeoju branch chief Yoon Seok-yeol and Yangpyeong County Mayor Kim Seon-gyo, as well as suspicions surrounding connections between Yangpyeong county officials and the developer, but these were not investigated," and asked, "If the prosecution had seized Kim Jin-woo's cellphone, wouldn't it have been possible to thoroughly uncover the collusion suspicions?" They added, "Could it be that the cellphone was deliberately excluded from the search warrant out of fear that a truth that must never be revealed would be exposed?"
They then demanded the prosecution to "explain whether there was pressure from higher-ups, why the warrants were rejected three times, and why the cellphone, a key piece of evidence, was excluded." They also urged the police to "thoroughly investigate whether any pressure was exerted during the prosecution's rejection of the search warrants."
Park Chan-dae, co-chairman of the Committee for Countermeasures Against Prosecutorial Dictatorship and Political Oppression, emphasized the necessity of passing the Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act in a meeting with reporters after the press conference. He said, "More than half of the public agrees with the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor, and there is a perception that investigations related to Mrs. Kim are not fair," and added, "If the special prosecutor act passes, we expect President Yoon will not be able to reject it."
The Democratic Party issued another statement in the afternoon, reaffirming their determination to pass the 'Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act.'
Senior Deputy Spokesperson Ahn Gwi-ryeong emphasized, "We will definitely pass the 'Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act' to prove that all people are equal before the law and to restore fairness and common sense that President Yoon Seok-yeol has abandoned."

Deputy Spokesperson Ahn said, "The British media Daily Mail has reported in detail on various allegations surrounding Mrs. Kim, including academic fraud, career fabrication, and plagiarism. The diplomatic visits of President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife are leading to national embarrassment," and made these remarks.
He said, "In the eyes of foreign media, Mrs. Kim appears to be a person who pretends to be innocent despite various allegations," and asked the presidential office, "How will you respond to the foreign media's criticism that 'Mrs. Kim has a dishonest image due to allegations and falsehoods'?" He continued, "Even if she is the president's family, if there are allegations, shouldn't she be investigated and punished if guilty?" and raised his voice, "That is also consistent with the fairness and common sense that President Yoon Seok-yeol has advocated." He also said, "Various allegations surrounding Mrs. Kim remain unresolved and are piling up, spreading worldwide through foreign media," and added, "Ultimately, the only way to resolve all these allegations surrounding Mrs. Kim is to uncover the truth through a special prosecutor."
