Samsung C&T's 'Raemian Nature Gallery' Wins Award from International Federation of Landscape Architects
Grand Prize in Culture and Urban Landscape Category
Samsung C&T Corporation's Construction Division announced on the 23rd that it won the Outstanding Award, the highest prize in the Culture and Urban Landscape category, at the '2023 IFLA Asia-Pacific Region (APR) Awards' hosted by the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA). The entry was the 'Nature Gallery,' an outdoor landscaping space of Raemian Gallery (Raemian brand experience center) located in Munjeong-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul.
Founded in 1948, IFLA is the representative organization of landscape architects worldwide with 77 member countries, and its awards ceremony is regarded as the most prestigious in the landscaping field. This year, the IFLA Awards received a total of 433 entries across 10 categories, including the Culture and Urban Landscape category.
The Raemian Nature Gallery, which won the grand prize this time, is based on the motif of 'nature as it is' to realize sustainable landscaping. It reproduces the appearance of an actual forest by utilizing native species such as pine and Mongolian oak and employing natural planting techniques. An ecological pond inhabited by aquatic plants was created to enable rainwater control during heavy rainfall. As a result, various flora and fauna grow, and over time, the space has become a self-sustaining ecosystem.
It also serves as a public space for urban residents. Connectivity with the surrounding area was enhanced by removing elements that block pathways and sightlines and by linking pathways continuing from adjacent parks. Additionally, it has become a community where residents can comfortably rest regardless of the season, thanks to resting facilities such as benches and dining tables and lighting design that considers nighttime scenery.
Samsung C&T stated that the project was highly evaluated in terms of design value, environmental friendliness, and sustainability for creating a sustainable habitat disconnected from the surroundings while also establishing a public garden.
