Gurye-gun Holds Joint Meeting of Regional Development Innovation Council
Discussion on Various Regional Issues Including the Risk of Regional Extinction
Scheduled to Transition to Gurye-gun Local Era Committee from Next Year
On the 20th, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 22nd that it held a joint meeting of the Regional Development Innovation Council at the Culture and Arts Center.
About 100 people, including members of the county and eup-myeon innovation councils and senior county officials, attended the meeting to discuss current issues of the 8th civilian administration and future development directions.
The Regional Development Innovation Council was launched in 2019 to promote national balanced development and regional innovation.
The council consists of 180 members, including local representatives, county council members, and experts, from the county and eight eup-myeon councils.
In particular, this joint meeting marked the conclusion of the Regional Development Innovation Council by sharing the achievements of the past five years.
This is because, following the enforcement of the Local Decentralization Balanced Development Act, it will be transformed into the Gurye-gun Local Era Committee starting next year.
The council has greatly contributed to county administration development. In 2019, it led the abolition of the entrance fee to Cheoneunsa Temple and the eradication of azalea cultivation that hindered eco-friendly agriculture.
Especially in 2020, it significantly contributed to the reduction of the Osan scenic area, which infringed on regional development and private property rights, and as a result, this led to the attraction of private investment for the Osan cable car project in 2022.
This year, it is actively leading efforts to attract an eco-friendly pumped-storage power plant.
During the subsequent regional development discussion meeting, various proposals and pressing issues were discussed.
The council agreed to actively consult on revitalizing the aging Hwaeomsa Temple shopping district, the introduction of paid parking at the national park parking lot, and the reduction of national park zones that restrict private property rights.
Additionally, the neglected azalea hill in Gwangui-myeon will be reorganized and linked with Jirisan Garden, and proposals such as selling country-specific foods involving multicultural families, creating a gateway to Gurye-gun, and agricultural solar power will be discussed gradually.
The rice straw return project related to carbon-neutral soil restoration is scheduled to be fully implemented next year, focusing on eco-friendly complexes.
Chairman Kim Young-min emphasized, “We will unite our capabilities centered on the council to overcome the crisis of regional extinction,” and stated, “We will actively cooperate on various county administration issues.”
County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, “With the dawn of the local era, the council’s status will rise, and its role will become even more important,” adding, “I ask the members to actively work to solve problems that are difficult for the county to address directly, such as the maintenance of privately owned Hwaeomsa Temple shopping district.”
