Changwon Special City, Award Ceremony for Akim-e Village Creation Contest ... Efforts to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Enough Electricity for a 4-Person Household for 6 Years
On the 22nd, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the 'Akime Village Making Contest Award Ceremony' in the 3rd conference room of the city hall.
The 'Akime Village Making Contest' is a project promoted through a business agreement between Changwon Special City and the Korea Electric Power Corporation Gyeongnam Headquarters on April 6th this year. A total of 401 households from 19 villages participated, and from June to September, residents worked together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save energy in their villages.
Based on the evaluation of the reduction rate of electricity usage compared to the previous year, enrollment in the carbon neutrality points system, and carbon neutrality promotional activities, the following villages were selected: ▲Grand Prize - Geumsan Village (Jinbuk-myeon, Masanhappo-gu) ▲Excellence Award - Yongji Garosugil Village (Yongji-dong, Seongsan-gu), Busan Village (Jinbuk-myeon, Masanhappo-gu) ▲Encouragement Award - Dongbu Village (Daesan-myeon, Uichang-gu), Muhak Apartment in Dongjeong-dong (Uichang-dong, Uichang-gu), Hanhyo Gukhwa Mansion (Yangdeok 2-dong, Masanhoewon-gu), Sinmok Village (Naesa-eup, Masanhoewon-gu), and Gyeonghwa-dong 11th District (Gyeonghwa-dong, Jinhae-gu), totaling eight villages.
Outstanding villages received plaques and prize money, with the prize money set at 2 million KRW for the grand prize, 1.5 million KRW each for excellence awards, and 1 million KRW each for encouragement awards. The funds were provided by Changwon City and KEPCO Gyeongnam Headquarters.
Geumsan Village, which won the grand prize, reduced its average village electricity usage by 27%, earning the highest honor. Additionally, as a special prize, KEPCO will support the installation of a 3kW solar power generation facility at the Geumsan Village heatwave shelter.
Through this contest, the total electricity saved by all participating households (401 households) over four months amounted to 25.3 MWh, which is equivalent to the amount one four-person household would use over six years.

The city will also continue multifaceted efforts to overcome the climate crisis, including expanding the supply of zero-emission vehicles and resolving climate disparities.”
