Yeongju City in Gyeongbuk will host the "2023 Yeongju Mayor's Cup Amateur eSports Tournament" on December 2nd at the Seonbi Sesang Convention Hall in downtown Yeongju.
This tournament, being held for the first time this year, was initiated to provide citizens who enjoy gaming with unique year-end entertainment and attractions amid the rapidly growing eSports industry.
With a total prize of 5.3 million KRW, the tournament will feature two events: "League of Legends" (5:5 team match) and "StarCraft" (1:1 individual match). Amateur players nationwide aged 12 and above, in accordance with the game usage age guidelines, are eligible to participate.
Participants can apply by accessing the QR code on promotional materials such as posters and banners until the 22nd. The preliminary rounds will be held online over two days, on the 25th and 26th.
The top four or higher players selected through the preliminaries will compete in the offline finals at the Seonbi Sesang Convention Hall on December 2nd to determine the champion.
On December 2nd, when the offline finals take place at the Seonbi Sesang Convention Hall, Yeongju City plans to fill the venue with side events that both participants and spectators can enjoy together.
Free counseling booths targeting youth and younger generations will be operated, including "Personal Color," "Personality Type Test (MBTI)," and "Tarot" consultations. There will also be game zones featuring "Board Games," "Retro Arcade," and a "Mobile KartRider" tournament using tablet PCs, which families can enjoy together. Additionally, a "Career Counseling Booth" will be held with current eSports industry professionals invited to participate.
Lee Seong-eun (Heukunjang), a famous game YouTuber and former professional gamer from Yeongju, will also join the finals event, lending his expertise and excellent commentary skills to help make the first eSports event held in his hometown a success.
Various events for both participants and spectators will be prepared. These include the "2024 College Entrance Exam Student Encouragement Event," the "PC Bang Banner Photo Event," and a "Stamp Event" held on the day of the finals. Beyond the eSports matches, these unique attractions and diverse activities await visitors at the venue.
