On this day, Commissioner Yoon stated, “For the first time this year, we raised the basic salary of police officers to the same level as public security officials, enhancing the status of uniformed public servants,” and added, “We introduced the multiple rank system for the superintendent general rank for the first time, allocated many promotion slots for superintendent general to general recruits such as patrol officers, shortened the minimum service years required for promotion from lieutenant to senior superintendent general, thereby reforming the poor rank structure caused by the authoritarian rank system, and greatly expanded promotion opportunities to senior positions for capable general recruits.”
He continued, “We are strengthening the respect for police officers who have devoted long service in hazardous work environments by granting them eligibility for burial at the National Cemetery,” and emphasized, “We are actively promoting policies to establish branch hospitals of the Police Hospital so that more current and former police officers can receive medical support.”
