"Netanyahu Pushes Ahead with Judicial Reform Despite Warnings of Possible Hamas Invasion"
"Israeli Military Intelligence Department Issues Two Warnings"
If Ceasefire Is Achieved, May Step Down from Power
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing growing controversy after reportedly pushing ahead with judicial reforms despite receiving two warnings from military intelligence about the possibility of a Hamas surprise attack since March this year. As hostage exchanges and ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas show progress, calls for Netanyahu's resignation are expected to grow amid increasing criticism of his cabinet's responsibility for the war.
On the 20th (local time), the Israeli daily Haaretz reported that the Israeli military intelligence sent warnings twice, in March and July this year, expressing concerns about a potential Hamas invasion of Israel before it occurred. Haaretz stated that the Israeli military intelligence warned Prime Minister Netanyahu of the possibility of a Hamas attack twice: on March 19, when Netanyahu was pushing forward with judicial reforms, and on July 16, when preparations were underway to approve the judicial reform bill.
According to Haaretz, at the time, General Amit Saar, head of Israeli military intelligence, wrote in a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu that "Israel's cohesion is under threat and it is facing an unprecedented crisis," adding, "Our main enemies, including Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas, may seek to overthrow Israel, and especially the current situation could present an opportunity for the enemies."
Subsequently, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also requested Prime Minister Netanyahu to halt the judicial reforms to address the security situation. However, Haaretz pointed out that Netanyahu attempted to dismiss Gallant but later reversed the decision. Despite warnings from Israeli military authorities, Netanyahu pushed ahead with the judicial reform bill, which caused domestic and international turmoil, and criticism regarding the war responsibility of Netanyahu's cabinet is expected to intensify.
In particular, as a ceasefire and hostage negotiations with Hamas approach, there are forecasts that calls for the resignation of the Netanyahu administration may increase. Earlier, on the 21st, Hamas posted an urgent message on its Telegram account stating that Hamas's top leader, Ismail Haniyeh, "has conveyed responses to Qatar and mediators and said that a ceasefire agreement is nearly reached."
