According to the agreement, both organizations plan to promote various cooperative projects such as volunteer work suited to local conditions, cultural exchanges, and talent donation for youth English education by the U.S. Forces Korea.
The city supports cultural experience programs to promote K-culture and help Camp Carroll personnel adapt to life in Korea, including local cultural experience tours, national intangible cultural heritage Ssireum education, and hosting Ssireum competitions for U.S. Forces Korea. Camp Carroll is also implementing programs for youth English education and foreign culture experience, such as inviting local students to the military base, talent donation for English speaking contests, and Nakdong River environmental cleanup activities.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “This was a meaningful occasion to sign an agreement for mutual understanding, cooperation enhancement, and diverse cultural exchanges on the 70th anniversary of the Korea-U.S. alliance this year. We will continue to lead the win-win development of Gumi City and the U.S. Forces Korea through ongoing exchanges and strive to promote the region’s excellent history and culture.”
