Previously, in last month's general election, Milei had trailed Massa with 29.99% to 36.78%, but he succeeded in overturning the result in the runoff between the top two candidates held on this day. Earlier, he had also secured first place in the August primary election (PASO), which is considered a predictor of the presidential race.
Defeated candidate Massa acknowledged his loss before the official announcement of the results, telling supporters at his campaign headquarters around 8:10 p.m., "I accept my defeat and concede," and congratulated Milei on his victory in the runoff.
