Yoon Orders "Government Joint TF Activation" in Response to Administrative Network Outage
Formation of Task Force Including Cybersecurity Secretary, National Intelligence Service, Prosecutors, and Police
President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 17th (local time) instructed to "immediately activate a government joint task force (TF) for swift response" regarding the incident where public institutions' civil complaint services to the public were paralyzed due to a national information system service outage.
Kim Eun-hye, the chief spokesperson, conveyed that President Yoon gave this instruction early that morning. President Yoon is visiting San Francisco, USA, to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
It was reported that President Yoon presided over meetings locally while receiving related reports from Korea via phone.
The government joint TF is led by Yoon Oh-jun, Cybersecurity Secretary of the Presidential Office, and is composed of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the National Intelligence Service, the prosecution, the police, and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), with plans to also receive advice from private experts. The first TF meeting is expected to be held soon in Korea.
The previous day, the Saeol administrative network exclusively for public officials and the government online civil service platform Government24 were completely suspended. As a result, citizens trying to obtain civil documents experienced significant inconvenience throughout the day.
