Yoon Approval Rating Drops 2%p to 34%... People Power 35% · Democratic Party 33%
President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his job performance has slightly declined.
According to a public opinion poll released on the 17th by Gallup (conducted from the 14th to the 16th via telephone interviews with 1,001 adults aged 18 and over nationwide), the percentage of respondents who believe President Yoon is performing his duties well dropped by 2 percentage points from the previous week to 34%. Negative evaluations, viewing his performance as poor, increased by 1 percentage point to 56%.
Among those who gave a positive evaluation of his job performance (337 respondents, open-ended), reasons cited included 'diplomacy' (34%), 'defense and security' (6%), and 'hardworking/doing his best' (5%). Those who gave a negative evaluation (561 respondents, open-ended) mentioned reasons such as 'economy, livelihood, and prices' (22%), 'authoritarian/unilateral' (8%), 'lack of communication', 'diplomacy' (both 7%), and 'generally doing poorly' (5%).
Regarding party support, the People Power Party's approval rating fell by 2 percentage points from the previous week to 35%, while the Democratic Party of Korea dropped by 1 percentage point to 33%. The proportion of respondents with no party affiliation increased by 2 percentage points to 27%.
This survey also included questions about economic outlook, which showed improvement compared to last month's survey. When asked about the economy over the next year, 18% of respondents expected it to improve, while 53% anticipated it would worsen. Expectations for economic improvement rose by 4 percentage points, and expectations for economic deterioration decreased by 9 percentage points compared to last month.
