Ok Kyunghun, Director of Basic Society Research Institute, "Welcome Jeonnam Province's Acceptance of Gwangyeok Railroad Passing Through Hyochun Station"
"A Foundation for Mutual Growth and Development"
Oh Kyung-hoon, director of ‘Lee Jae-myung's Basic Society Research Institute,’ recently expressed support for Jeonnam Province's decision to accept the ‘Gwangju-Naju Metropolitan Railroad route via Hyochon Station.’
On the 16th, Director Oh stated, “Since this project is closely related to the daily lives of residents in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, a progressive review should be conducted from the perspective of regional balanced development,” adding, “It is necessary for Gwangju City and Jeonnam Province to cooperate and thoroughly prepare for the preliminary feasibility study.”
He continued, “The route change should be seen as an investment for regional balanced development to overcome the concentration in the metropolitan area and the extinction of local regions,” emphasizing, “It not only improves transportation convenience for Gwangju residents but also allows Naju residents easier access to Gwangju’s urban infrastructure.”
Jeonnam Province has opposed the route via Hyochon Station, arguing that the economic feasibility (BC) of the revised route, confirmed through a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport study, decreases from 0.78 to 0.63, a drop of 0.15, and that the project cost increases by approximately 267.6 billion KRW compared to the original 1.5192 trillion KRW.
