Wando-gun Wins 'Excellence Award' at Wildfire Site Command Competition

Evaluation of Command System Operation and Proficiency in Operating Evolutionary Equipment

Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) received the Grand Prize at the '2023 Jeollanam-do Integrated Wildfire Command Competition' held on the 10th at Baekjin Park in Damyang-gun.

According to the county on the 15th, the 'Integrated Wildfire Command Competition' was hosted by the Jeonnam branch of the Korea Wildfire Prevention Technology Association and organized by Jeollanam-do, with 250 participants from 22 cities and counties competing to demonstrate their wildfire response capabilities.

At the competition, participants were evaluated on their proficiency in quickly and systematically operating command headquarters and command systems during a simulated wildfire outbreak, as well as firefighting equipment such as fire trucks, portable water tanks, and backpack pumps.

Wando-gun has been strengthening its wildfire suppression capabilities by regularly conducting mechanized system operations and firefighting training every year in preparation for wildfires, which contributed to their excellent performance in this competition.

Additionally, as Wando is home to the largest subtropical forest in Korea, the county has been reinforcing its wildfire response system by allocating related budgets to protect the safety and property of residents and its forest resources.

Park Eun-jae, Director of the Forest Recreation Division, stated, “We will continue to do our best to protect the safety and property of our residents from wildfires through ongoing internal training,” and urged residents to be cautious, emphasizing that “prevention is the most important aspect of wildfire management, and illegal burning, the main cause of wildfires, is a prohibited act.”

Meanwhile, as dry weather continues to increase the risk of wildfires, the county has designated the period until the 31st of next month as the ‘Autumn Wildfire Prevention Period’ and has fully launched its wildfire prevention response system.
