Inauguration Ceremony of the First Step Program for Nuclear Power Export

Thirteen small and medium-sized nuclear power equipment companies will challenge exports worth a total of 530 billion KRW by 2027 using the newly established 'First Step Nuclear Export Program' this year, which aims to nurture 100 nuclear power equipment export companies.

On the 15th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 'First Step Nuclear Export Program Launch Ceremony' at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, presided over by Lee Ho-hyun, Director of the Energy Policy Office. Representatives of the 13 selected companies, the Nuclear Export Industry Association, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Korea Trade Insurance Corporation, and the Korea Atomic Energy Cooperation Foundation, five export support organizations, attended the event.

The First Step Nuclear Export Program is a newly established project this year to intensively support the first export of small and medium-sized nuclear power companies. Since the call for participating companies in September, a total of 32 companies applied, and 13 promising export companies with competitiveness in 'price, quality, and delivery' were finally selected, overcoming a competition rate of 2.5:1. Major selected companies include PK Valve & Engineering, the largest industrial valve specialist in Korea; Sungil SIM, a piping manufacturing company that succeeded in domestic localization of high-frequency bending technology for the first time in Korea; and BHI, which has supplied auxiliary equipment to multiple domestic nuclear power plants.

At the launch ceremony, export support organizations signed a business agreement for the First Step Nuclear Export Program support project. Through this agreement, these organizations will provide a package of 30 support projects covering the entire export cycle?from market research, export strategy establishment, quality certification acquisition, marketing, contract signing, to delivery?for up to five years. This integration of export support projects, previously operated separately by various organizations, into a single package differentiates it from existing projects, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy expects significant support effects.

The Nuclear Export Industry Association and related organizations will closely support early export achievements through the establishment of a 'Nuclear Export Support Center' dedicated to managing this program, designation of export officers by each organization, regular meetings among support organizations (once a month), and on-site visits to companies.

Director Lee, who presided over the meeting, said, "Not only the bulk orders for new nuclear power plants but also nuclear power equipment exports are blue ocean markets with great growth potential," adding, "We will provide generous support to nurture 100 nuclear power equipment export companies."
