Gwangyang City, Making Every Effort to Secure National Funding for Next Year
Mayor Jeon In-hwa Meets Budget Committee Chair Budget Subcommittee Member
Actively Requests Cooperation for Increasing Funding of Current Projects
Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, departed Gwangyang at 4 a.m. on the 13th, the first day of the Budget and Accounts Special Committee’s “Budget Adjustment Subcommittee” review, and visited the National Assembly again following his visit on the 2nd to ensure that more of Gwangyang City’s pending projects are reflected in the 「2024 Budget」.
On this day, Mayor Jeong focused on meeting the Budget and Accounts Committee members as the committee’s session began. Starting with a meeting with Seo Sam-seok, Chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee, he subsequently met with Lee Yong-ho, a member of the Budget Subcommittee from the People Power Party, Song Seok-jun, a Budget Subcommittee member, Do Jong-hwan, a Budget Subcommittee member from the Democratic Party, and Jin Sung-jun, among others, actively requesting their cooperation to increase the budget for Gwangyang City’s pending projects.
The main proposed projects include ▲ the construction of a public Gwangyang Materials Science Museum with 5 billion KRW (total 40 billion KRW) ▲ the restoration project of Seonghwang-Jungma urban ecological axis with 3.8 billion KRW (total 8 billion KRW) ▲ the connection project of Gubongsan ecological axis with 3.5 billion KRW (total 5 billion KRW) ▲ installation of buffer retention facilities in the Gwangyang National Industrial Complex with 7.7 billion KRW (total 42.4 billion KRW), totaling four projects with a 20 billion KRW scale in the 2024 budget.
Mayor Jeong In-hwa also held successive meetings with Jeong Pil-mo, Chairman of the Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee and Budget Subcommittee member, Lee Jeong-moon, Budget Subcommittee member, and Min Hyeong-bae, members of the same committee, which oversees the 「Construction of the Public Gwangyang Materials Science Museum」 project that Gwangyang City is particularly focused on securing budget for, seeking their cooperation to pass the increase proposal from the Science and Broadcasting Committee to the Budget and Accounts Committee.

Despite the grueling schedule of meeting about ten members of the National Assembly after departing Gwangyang early in the morning, Mayor Jeong In-hwa showed no sign of fatigue and said, “Both myself and all Gwangyang City staff are determined with the spirit of ‘Saengjeuksa Sajuksaeng (生卽死 死卽生)’?meaning ‘to live is to die, to die is to live’?and will do whatever it takes to secure even one more won of national funding, doing our utmost until the very end.”
