Damyang Grilled Hangwa Exported to the US Captivates American Taste Buds
Sandeulhae Co., Ltd. Grilled Hangwa Exported 40 Tons to Costco USA
The baked Hangwa, created by pioneering a new path for traditional Korean sweets, has embarked on its journey to the U.S. export market.
On the 13th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that a shipment ceremony was held for the export of Hangwa produced by the local company Sandeulhae Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Hyun-man).
The volume of Hangwa to be exported to open a new market in the U.S. is about 40 tons.
Attendees at the shipment ceremony included Lee Byung-no, the county governor, Choi Yong-man, chairman of the county council, Kim Hyun-man, CEO of Sandeulhae Co., Ltd., Shin Hyun-gon, international cooperation officer of Jeollanam-do, and Noh Yoon-hee, head of the Jeonnam regional headquarters of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation.
Sandeulhae Co., Ltd. attracted attention in the U.S. market by producing Hangwa that is baked rather than traditionally fried in oil.
The exported Hangwa is scheduled to be sold at five locations in San Francisco, USA.
Costco, which operates about 590 stores nationwide in the U.S., has over 120 million paid members out of the 340 million U.S. population.
Governor Lee Byung-no expressed gratitude, saying, “I thank the companies and related personnel who have worked tirelessly to pioneer overseas markets,” and added, “We will promote multifaceted policies such as supporting agricultural export logistics costs and overseas promotional events to secure export competitiveness.”
