On the 13th, Gyeonggi Province announced that 3,040 people participated in the 'Real Treasure Festival,' the world's largest treasure hunt festival using digital immersive technology, held on the 12th at the old Gyeonggi Provincial Government Building and the nearby Paldalsan Dulle-gil trail. The previous Guinness World Record was 2,732 participants set in Ottawa, Canada, in 2017.
The event featured unique content where participants searched for treasures like a childhood picnic treasure hunt using digital immersive technology and smartphones. It was planned to revitalize the depressed area around the old government building. The treasure notes were set as virtual treasures using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, and treasure redemption was replaced with smartphone gifticon vouchers.
Participants naturally walked through every corner of the old government building and the Paldalsan Dulle-gil trail while finding a total of 200 hidden treasures. Various prizes such as social economy products, Baedal Teukgeup coupons, and gifticons were awarded based on the number of treasures found and rankings. Diverse side programs including a mini game zone, photo zone, food trucks, and band performances were also provided, drawing enthusiastic responses from visitors.
The first place found 172 treasures, second place 171, and third place 170, with the winner decided in the last 5 seconds.
Notably, the festival collaborated with nearby small business owners by operating a merchant association beverage booth and offering a 10% discount coupon from the merchant association as a treasure hunt prize.
The mission zone, created by opening the previously restricted Chungmu facility, a private no-entry zone due to security, was designed with a task to find the merchant association’s business names as codes, adding fun and interest. All 500 merchant association discount coupons and 600 gift certificates worth 5,000 won prepared for the day were fully used.
Gyeonggi Province plans to hold various events in cooperation with the public and private sectors connecting Suwon Station, the old government building, Paldalsan, and Hwaseong Haenggung Palace. Through this, they aim to lead the old government building as the center of regional economic revitalization and develop it as a place where residents can enjoy and experience.
