Sleeping Pills and Narcotic E-Cigarettes... Gang of 21 Sexual Assaults Arrested Over 6 Years
Sexual Assault After Drug-Laced E-Cigarette Causes Loss of Consciousness
Illegal Filming and Sharing of the Crime Scene Also Occurred
A group of men who collectively sexually assaulted women after making them smoke electronic cigarettes laced with drugs and lose consciousness have been arrested by the police.
On the 10th, the Jeju Western Police Station announced that they had arrested and sent to prosecution two men in their 30s, Mr. A and Mr. B, on charges including violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (special rape, filming and distribution using cameras) and violation of the Narcotics Control Act. Another accomplice, Mr. C, was booked without detention on the same charges and is under investigation.
Mr. A and Mr. B, who are friends, are accused of working at entertainment bars across the country from November 2017 until last October, during which they made women drink beverages mixed with sleeping pills or smoke electronic cigarettes containing liquid synthetic marijuana at the establishments or residences, and then raped them. It was confirmed that Mr. C joined the crimes from earlier this year.
According to the investigation, the number of female victims nationwide reached 21, including some foreign women. However, it was reported that the victims were unaware of the assaults because they lost consciousness at the time of the crimes.
The police began investigating after receiving reports from victims saying, "I suddenly lost consciousness while drinking with two men I met by chance at a bar. Drug use is suspected." On the 20th of last month, Mr. A and Mr. B were apprehended at an undisclosed location in Jeju City. A search of their residence uncovered mobile phones used in the crimes and about 5 ml of liquid synthetic marijuana.
It was found that Mr. A and Mr. B collectively raped the women while they were unconscious and recorded the assaults on their mobile phones, sharing the footage among themselves. Initially, they used sleeping pills for the crimes, but this year they purchased drugs from a dealer and used them in the assaults.
The police conducted digital forensic analysis on the mobile phones and discovered dozens of illegal sexual videos filmed by the suspects, with the total size of the additional videos reaching 280 gigabytes. The police believe that the illegal videos were neither sold nor distributed to third parties.
Mr. C did not participate in the crimes reported this time but was caught after being found involved in other offenses during the police investigation.
