US "Daily 4-Hour Ceasefire in Northern Gaza Strip" but Rejects Full Ceasefire
On the 9th (local time), the White House announced that Israel has agreed to cease hostilities for four hours daily in the northern Gaza Strip to help civilians escape the conflict zone. However, President Joe Biden dismissed the possibility of a full ceasefire, saying there is "none."
John Kirby, National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for Strategic Communications, confirmed during an online briefing that there will be no military operations in the northern Gaza Strip during Israel's temporary ceasefire periods. This will take effect starting today, and Israel will announce the ceasefire times three hours in advance each day. In addition to existing humanitarian corridors, coastal roads will also be opened as passageways.
Coordinator Kirby described the temporary ceasefire as "a step in the right direction," explaining that it will "ensure civilians can move to safe areas away from the effects of the fighting."
However, the United States clearly drew a line, stating that this temporary ceasefire is not an official truce. According to the White House press pool, before leaving Washington D.C. to attend an event in Illinois, President Biden responded to a reporter's question about the possibility of a ceasefire by saying, "None, no possibility."
