Activation of Industry-Academia Cooperation and Technology Commercialization Centered on Enterprise-Department Collaboration WG

Dong-Eui University (President Han Suhwan) LINC 3.0 Project Group (Director Lee Imgeon) operates WG (Working Group), a unit organization of industry-academia cooperation communities combining departments, companies, and research institutes.

WG, the core entity of the LINC 3.0 project, is Dong-Eui University's unique industry-academia-research linkage model designed to create expansive industry-academia-research cooperation outcomes by major field in response to internal and external environmental changes surrounding the university.

Through WG, departments converged by theme form ICCs (Industry coupled Cooperation Centers), companies, research institutes, and councils to promote distinctive talent cultivation education based on corporate demands, corporate support projects, joint industry-academia research, technology commercialization, and startups.

The Smart Manufacturing Technology WG of the Dong-Eui University LINC 3.0 Project Group is holding the 2023 Paper Ship Building Festival on June 1st.

In the second year of the LINC 3.0 project this year, 35 departments from engineering and business fields are participating. A total of 11 WGs have been formed with themes such as △Materials △Smart Manufacturing Technology △Artificial Intelligence & Big Data △Bio-Biomedical △IoT Application Systems △Smart Convergence Services △Digital Contents & Cinema △Design Engineering △Construction Value Convergence △Chemistry, Environment & Applications △Smart Hospitality Management.

As one example, through the Guardian Product Design WG, students majoring in Product Design Engineering at Dong-Eui University achieved differentiated results through continuous collaborative projects with Guardian Co., Ltd., a door guard development company. Students participating in the Guardian Product Design WG conducted everything from concept design of the door guard to prototype production, design presentations, and development evaluations, increasing the feasibility of actual mass production.

Also, students majoring in Food Engineering in the Bio-Biomedical WG gained a sense of production processes and tasks through field visits to major food companies and research institutes, which were linked to students’ field training and internships.

The Guardian Product Design WG of Dong-Eui University LINC 3.0 Project Group held a product design evaluation meeting for Guardian Co., Ltd. on June 20th in Room 503 of Jicheon Hall at Dong-Eui University.

On June 1st, the Smart Manufacturing Technology WG held the ‘2023 Paper Ship Building Festival’ in front of the College of Human Ecology at Dong-Eui University, enhancing understanding of ship systems and basic design capabilities through paper model ship production.

Additionally, on September 8th and 9th, the Smart Hospitality Management WG presented and shared global tourism promotion proposals with students from Japanese universities. The ‘Global Tourism Capstone Design Proposal Presentation Contest’ and the ‘Global Tourism Resource Development Program,’ which produced content for the commercialization of major tourism resources in the Busan area, are also results of WG activities.

Professor Yoo Hyeongsuk of the Smart Hospitality Management WG (Department of Hotel and Convention Management) said, “Through WG, the scope for planning and operating various projects combining departmental characteristics has expanded, and we have been able to more effectively discover field-centered programs linked with companies and ICCs, strengthening the foundation for producing excellent outcomes.”

Dong-Eui University’s WG is expected to gradually create substantial results that can fill the space of the industry-academia-research cooperation platform through the formation of convergent organizations between departments and disciplines based on a mid- to long-term ecological evolution model.

The Smart Hospitality Management WG of the Dong-Eui University LINC 3.0 Project Group held the Global Tourism Capstone Design Proposal Presentation Competition on September 8.
