Jeju Coast Guard Arrests 5 People Including for Drug Use at Entertainment Establishments
Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief So Byung-yong) arrested five individuals on the 9th on charges including drug sales mediation and drug use at entertainment establishments.
According to the Jeju Maritime Police Station on the day, four suspects including A (Korean, male in his 20s) were sent to prosecution without detention for violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances) for using MDMA (commonly known as 'Ecstasy') and ketamine at an entertainment establishment located in Asan-si, Chungnam.
One suspect B (Vietnamese illegal immigrant, male in his 20s), who mediated the sales, was sent to prosecution under detention, and the main seller, Vietnamese migrant woman C (in her 30s), has been identified and placed under departure restriction while being tracked.
In June, intelligence was received that a Vietnamese migrant woman operating an entertainment establishment near Sinjindo, Taean, was selling drugs to about 40 Vietnamese crew members aboard Jeju-registered squid fishing vessels that had moved for fishing season operations.
During the investigation of four suspects including A, a detailed hair analysis was conducted, which tested positive, confirming the use of Ecstasy and ketamine at the entertainment establishment around May.
In this process, suspect B, who was illegally staying, mediated the sale of 2 tablets of MDMA and 2g of ketamine among the entertainment establishment and Vietnamese acquaintances, and was sent to prosecution under detention for violating the Narcotics Control Act and the Immigration Control Act.
A Jeju Maritime Police official stated, “We plan to arrest the main seller as soon as possible and will respond strictly to crimes such as drug use among maritime and fisheries workers.”
