On the 7th, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency held the ‘Gyeonggi Youth Overseas Employment and Entrepreneurship Opportunity Expansion Project Launch Ceremony’ at the Suwon Gyeonggi Arts Center, attended by 100 young participants of this year’s program, and conducted preliminary education (orientation) for the youth.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province met with the participating youth and said, "I believe this is a process for you to find what you want to do. Encounter many challenges, take on many challenges, and gain a lot of experience. You will experience failure, frustration, and small successes, and the sediment that settles in your heart through these experiences will determine your happiness. That is the purpose of this program. I hope you fully experience and enjoy it, and find happiness in the process itself," he urged.
At the launch ceremony, the youth named the group they will use until the completion of their overseas job experience as ‘Gyeong(gi)Cheong(yeon) Stars’ and shared with Governor Kim Dong-yeon their motivations for participating in the program, aspirations for self-development, and determination. ‘Gyeongcheong Stars’ symbolizes Gyeonggi youth climbing the ladder of opportunity and reaching for the stars to achieve their future dreams.
The Gyeonggi Youth Overseas Employment and Entrepreneurship Opportunity Expansion Project provides young people aged 19 to 34 who wish to work or start a business overseas with the chance to explore career paths through on-site experience at overseas companies. Depending on the region, the program runs for four weeks and includes local practical language training, one-on-one mentoring and job training, company site visits and hands-on experience, and practical trade marketing training at local domestic companies, as well as opportunities for local interviews.
In particular, the program includes participation from overseas Korean businesspeople through the World-OKTA (Overseas Korean Traders Association), practical trade and marketing education programs via the Gyeonggi Business Center (GBC), and hands-on experience at hiring companies connected to overseas branches of Globalization Partners. When recruiting 100 participants, 388 applied, recording a competition rate of 3.9 to 1.
The experience locations are 9 cities in 7 countries: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (13 participants); Manila, Philippines (13); Hanoi (12) and Ho Chi Minh City (7), Vietnam; Taipei, Taiwan (6); New Delhi (6) and Bengaluru (7), India; Fukuoka, Japan (30); and Tashkent, Uzbekistan (6).
