View original imageOn the 7th, Pohang City held a congratulatory event at the External Cooperation Office of City Hall, inviting Pohang Steelers’ CEO Choi In-seok, General Manager Lee Jong-ha, Coach Kim Ki-dong, and player Go Young-jun, who won the FA Cup.
This year marks the 50th anniversary since the Pohang Steelers were established in 1973, making the victory even more meaningful. Moreover, it was a great achievement not only for the club but also for the citizens of Pohang and fans, as it was the first FA Cup win in 10 years since 2013.
Coach Kim Ki-dong, who attended the event, experienced his first championship since his coaching debut in 2019 with this victory, and player Go Young-jun added to his joy by achieving the FA Cup win following his gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Player Go Young-jun brightened the atmosphere by saying he attended as the player representative to express his gratitude to Mayor Lee Kang-deok, who had sent a congratulatory message for the Hangzhou Asian Games gold medal.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “I am very grateful that the Pohang Steelers brought great joy to the citizens with a comeback victory and FA Cup championship,” adding, “I applaud the sweat and effort of the players who worked hard to lift the trophy, and just like the past 50 years, let’s move forward together for 100 years as a strong team in the football city of Pohang.”
CEO Choi In-seok said, “I am happy to be able to give the glory of the championship to the citizens of Pohang who always support the club,” and added, “Please continue to give unwavering love and support to the players.”
The Pohang Steelers are the oldest professional football club in Korea, loved for making history as the first to build a football-only stadium, Steel Yard, establish a K League youth system, open the first clubhouse, and create a Hall of Fame.
