Yongin City: "In an Emergency, Call Out the Name of the Rabbit Hole"
Unique Names Assigned to 128 Corridor Boxes in the District
24-Hour Lighting and Pedestrian Warning Signs Also Installed
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 7th that it has assigned unique names to 128 passage boxes (rabbit holes) within the city for the safety of its citizens. This is to enable citizens to quickly communicate their location in case of emergencies.
With this naming, the passage box under the Gyeongbu Expressway near Guseong Station on the Suin-Bundang Line was named 'Ihyeon2 Passage,' and the passage box at 431-1 Dongbaek-dong under the Yeongdong Expressway was named 'Dongmak1 Passage.' The city has ensured that lights remain on 24 hours a day for pedestrian safety in the passage boxes and installed six 'Pedestrian Caution' signs at the entrances.

The city plans to install an AI-based pedestrian safety electronic display board in November that recognizes pedestrians via cameras and alerts drivers.
The city explained that the naming of these passage boxes follows Governor Lee Sang-il's directive during Mayor Lee Sang-il's on-site inspection of the passage boxes in August to devise improvement measures for citizen safety.
For pedestrian safety, the city carried out environmental improvement projects such as internal cleaning and facility maintenance at 16 passage boxes including Sangmi Ssanggul Bridge and Respia Passage. Tunnel lights were replaced or newly installed at 18 locations including Jukjeon Rodeo Passage.
The city also checked the proper operation of CCTV at 26 locations including Saecheonyeon Pedestrian Passage and Cheongdeokdambi1 Passage.
