Wang Yi, member of the Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Penny Wong, Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and said, "Let us join hands toward the future and promote cooperation."
According to Phoenix TV on the 6th (local time), Minister Wang met Minister Wong in Beijing on the 6th and said, "President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese clearly set the major direction for improving bilateral relations during their meeting in Bali, Indonesia last year."
Minister Wang said, "China and Australia have understood each other and moved forward to improve relations every time they met," adding, "I believe Prime Minister Albanese's visit this time will be successful."
He also told Minister Wong, who celebrated her birthday the day before, "Being able to spend your birthday in Beijing carries a special meaning that shows your connection with China."
In response, Minister Wong said, "Australia and China need to cooperate in possible areas and build trust."
