Taekwondo Dojang Owner Beats Student Until Unconscious Over Demand for 'Back Wages'

An incident occurred where a psychological counselor demanding overdue wages was indiscriminately assaulted.

According to the police and informants on the 6th, psychological counselor A was severely beaten to the point of losing consciousness by Director B, who runs a Taekwondo gym in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, on the 27th of last month.

A had signed a labor contract to work as a psychological counselor and caregiver at the Taekwondo gym operated by Director B, but after not receiving wages for over two years and demanding payment, A was subjected to such assault.

The assault was fully recorded on CCTV installed inside the Taekwondo gym.

Inside the Taekwondo gym office, after assaulting A to the point of unconsciousness, Director B dragged A outside the office, pushed the awakened A into a massage chair, strangled A, and even forced A to kneel while conversing, all of which was recorded.

A claims that in addition to prolonged assault, there was also degrading treatment causing human humiliation.

A stated, “If you are a Taekwondo director, your hands and feet are like weapons and deadly instruments, so I don’t understand why the police, after reviewing the assault video on the day of the incident, did not immediately arrest him. Prompt investigation and punishment are necessary.”

The case is currently under investigation by the Women and Youth Division of the Jeju Western Police Station, and Director B reportedly appeared at the police station for questioning on the day. A is currently hospitalized and is expected to be questioned once health improves.
