Daegu City Expands and Relocates Bangchon-dong Agricultural Technology Center to Agricultural Products Wholesale Market Parking Lot Site
Goal Before the Second Half of 2027
Facility is Small and Trainees Increased Tenfold
Daegu City announced on the 5th that it plans to expand and relocate the Daegu Agricultural Technology Center, which has struggled to function properly due to aging facilities and a lack of educational space, as well as increased agricultural policy demand following the incorporation of Gunwi County, to the parking lot site of the Buk-gu Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market (former Northern Cargo Terminal).
The current Agricultural Technology Center, located in Bangchon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, has served as a regional agricultural technology hub institution that cultivates local agricultural manpower and disseminates agricultural technology since its completion in 1998.

There is no cultivation practice field, and it has reached the limit of securing additional usable space within the site. Additionally, despite hosting trainees of various ages and about 100,000 agricultural visitors annually, the center has suffered significant inconvenience due to insufficient parking, rest, and convenience facilities.
In metropolitan cities and special cities, agricultural technology centers are experiencing increased demand not only for specialized agricultural needs but also for various purposes such as healing agriculture through natural interaction for urban residents and agricultural product analysis to ensure safe agricultural products. In particular, Daegu City faces a growing need to actively respond to the increased agricultural policy demand following the incorporation of Gunwi County.
Daegu City has been seeking a site to expand and relocate the Agricultural Technology Center. Recently, with the confirmed relocation of the Buk-gu Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market to Dalseong County, the decision was made to move to the parking lot site of the Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market (former Northern Cargo Terminal), which will become a future idle site.
The new building will include agricultural research facilities as well as a startup farmer training practice field, smart farm, ecological learning experience center for urban residents, children's agricultural experience center, and healing garden, making it a cultural space for citizens. The relocation site is about three times larger than the current Agricultural Technology Center, adjacent to Metro Line 3 (Maechun Market Station), served by more than ten city bus routes, and close to Bukdaegu and Chilgok IC, making it a transportation hub with excellent accessibility.
Moreover, it is geographically centered between the Dalseong County and Gunwi County Agricultural Technology Centers, providing advantageous conditions for sharing and disseminating agricultural-related policies and new technology information in cooperation with central government ministries.
The former Northern Cargo Terminal site, confirmed for relocation, is city-owned land, so no compensation costs will be incurred. If the current Agricultural Technology Center in Bangchon-dong, Dong-gu, is sold and national funds available for the relocation project are secured, the project can proceed without additional budget.
The Agricultural Technology Center relocation project plans to start with a feasibility study next year, followed by design and construction, aiming for relocation in the second half of 2027. The current Agricultural Technology Center site is basically planned to be sold, and efforts will be made to develop it in a way that contributes to regional development.
Hong Jun-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, said, “The expansion and relocation of the Agricultural Technology Center will not only meet the increased agricultural policy demand following the incorporation of Gunwi County but also respond to various demands such as technology development for smart agriculture, healing agriculture for the general public, and experiential urban agriculture, which have recently surged.”

Mayor Hong also emphasized, “This decision fundamentally resolves the shortage of educational facilities and business space and marks a step up for Daegu’s agricultural policy.
