Police Investigate 20-Year-Old Woman After Child Dies from Neglect Following Birth
A woman in her 20s has been booked without detention on charges of neglecting her newborn child, resulting in the child's death.
On the 1st, the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul announced that they had booked a woman in her 20s, identified as Ms. A, without detention on charges of abandoning and causing the death of an infant.
According to the police and fire department, Ms. A called 119 at around 9:40 a.m. on the 30th of last month from her home in Gwangjin-gu, reporting, "I gave birth to a baby in the bathroom early this morning but could not cut the umbilical cord."
Paramedics who arrived at the scene found the infant already deceased and handed the case over to the police. Police investigations confirmed that Ms. A had given birth around noon on the 27th of last month, three days before the report.

The National Forensic Service conducted an autopsy on the infant's body and provided a preliminary verbal opinion to the police stating, "No visible fractures or trauma were observed."
