Jeon Cheong-jo, who was known as the remarriage partner of former national fencing representative Nam Hyun-hee, has been accused of mentioning psychiatrist Dr. Oh Eun-young in connection with a fraud scheme.
According to a report by CBS No Cut News on the 1st, person A revealed the specific methods Jeon used to commit crimes against parents and coaches at Nam’s fencing academy. Person A is known to be an associate of both Jeon and Nam.
According to person A, Jeon introduced himself to the fencing academy parents as the CEO of a company called "Maneul" and proposed educational programs worth billions of won per person.
Person A stated, "Jeon said that Maneul was secretly planning programs targeting chaebol families by combining sports advantageous for admission to Ivy League universities in the U.S., such as fencing, ice hockey, and horseback riding."
During this process, person A claimed that Jeon mentioned Dr. Oh.
Person A explained, "Jeon said he would attach Dr. Oh Eun-young to Maneul as a mental coach and charge parents '3 billion won per person' per month. Although the amount of 3 billion won was absurd, people were tempted."
Person A also said that Jeon told parents, "To enter the Ivy League, you must participate in U.S. competitions. You have to go through the Hong Kong competition to qualify for the U.S. competition," and presented preparation costs such as hotel and airfare amounting to 20 to 30 million won per person.
There were also claims that Jeon flaunted connections with famous figures, including mentioning Lee Boo-jin, president of Hotel Shilla, as if he had close ties.
Person A testified, "Jeon showed off to everyone as if he had a very close relationship with President Lee. He described in great detail how he met her, talked about various things, and received recommendations."
Meanwhile, Jeon is accused of fraud and attempted fraud by impersonating a third-generation chaebol, approaching students he met through acquaintances and lectures, receiving money under the pretext of investment funds, and inducing loans for investment funds.
Jeon was arrested on the 31st of last month at a relative’s house in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, and was transferred to the Seoul Songpa Police Station.
