Changwon Indoor Swimming Pool Reopens from the 1st... Facility Maintenance Completed
Microorganisms Found During Water Depth Control Plate Inspection After Closure Decision
Corporation Forms Task Force to Complete Emergency Measures for Facilities and Water Quality Environment
Gyeongnam Changwon Facilities Corporation announced that it completed emergency repair work on defects that occurred in some facilities of Changwon Indoor Swimming Pool from October 23 to 31 and resumed operations from the 1st.
On the 23rd of last month, the corporation discovered leakage in the balance tank of the machine room and damage to the depth control plate at Changwon Indoor Swimming Pool. Due to concerns about water supply and safety accidents, it decided on the same day to conduct emergency repairs and temporarily close the facility. The corporation notified users by posting notices at the swimming pool entrance, sending text messages, and providing information on its website.
On the same day, while inspecting the damage to the depth control plate at the indoor swimming pool, the corporation found an unidentified organism. It collected the specimen and sent it to the National Institute of Biological Resources located in Incheon for examination.
On the 23rd, the corporation formed a countermeasure headquarters led by the acting head of the Facilities Headquarters and organized investigation, recovery, and support teams to conduct a thorough inspection of the swimming pool and implement facility and water quality environment improvement measures.
On the 25th, the National Institute of Biological Resources replied that the organism was identified as midge larvae. On the same day, the Changwon City Water Quality Research Center conducted inspections of the direct water filtration mesh filter at Changwon Indoor Swimming Pool, collected water samples, and checked the tap water supply system, confirming no abnormalities. Later that afternoon, a joint inspection with K-water also confirmed that there were no issues with the tap water.
During the closure period, the corporation carried out facility improvement measures such as repairing the leakage in the balance tank, disinfecting the filter media of the filtration system, backwashing and cleaning the filters, and maintaining the interior windows and entrances of the swimming pool. Additionally, to improve water quality, it replaced and cleaned the depth control plates, sterilized and disinfected the pool, and conducted special disinfection of various drains.
On the 31st of last month, after a final safety inspection of the facilities and collecting samples from the swimming pool’s larvae filter for examination, the corporation confirmed that there were no problems and thus reopened the swimming pool from today.
Meanwhile, the corporation apologized to citizens for omitting the fact of larvae discovery when announcing the emergency closure of Changwon Indoor Swimming Pool. It explained that since the initially discovered organism was not accurately identified and the corporation focused on improving the facility environment to ensure citizens’ safety and convenience, it missed the timing to explain the situation to the public.
