Jeonnam Gangjin Medical Center Strengthens Role as Regional Public Hospital Hub
Opening of Nurse Dormitory
Jeonnam Province announced on the 31st that Jeonnam Gangjin Medical Center has established and opened a dormitory to improve the living conditions of nurses and strengthen its role as a regional public hospital providing high-quality medical services to residents.
The opening ceremony was attended by about 150 people, including Choi Seon-guk, Chairman of the Health, Welfare and Environment Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, and Cha Young-su, Chairman of the Council Steering Committee.
Gangjin Medical Center was selected in 2019 as a target for the Ministry of Health and Welfare's project to enhance the functions of regional public hospitals, which led to the construction of the nurses' dormitory.
The project was promoted to guarantee housing welfare for nurses working in rural fishing and farming areas and to stably secure excellent medical personnel.
With a total project cost of 6 billion KRW, equally funded by national and provincial governments at 3 billion KRW each, construction began in February last year and was completed in September this year. The dormitory has a total floor area of 1,878㎡ across four above-ground floors, featuring 60 studio-type individual rooms, a shared laundry room, a lounge, and other convenience facilities.
Lee Sang-sim, Director of the Health and Welfare Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, “The sweat and effort of medical personnel working on the front lines are the driving force behind the development of public health care. We hope that the new dormitory will help retain excellent medical staff.”
