"Didn't Work but Did" ... Busan City Official Caught Running Overtime Macro
Busan city officials who fraudulently recorded excessive overtime hours to wrongfully receive allowances amounting to millions of won have been caught, prompting a police investigation.
The Busan City Audit Committee announced on the 31st that it imposed severe disciplinary actions on five employees who used a macro program to falsely input working hours and received overtime allowances worth millions of won, and reported them to the police on charges of fraud and electronic record forgery.
According to the City Audit Committee, five employees affiliated with the city hall used a macro program from January to April last year to falsely record their clock-out times, making it appear as if they had worked hours they did not actually work.
A macro is a type of automation program that can automatically repeat specific tasks once a command is entered.
The overtime allowances they fraudulently obtained using the macro were investigated to amount to approximately 5 million won.
The City Audit Committee decided in July to impose severe disciplinary measures such as suspension on these individuals for violating the Local Public Officials Act and other regulations. Additionally, all fraudulently received overtime allowances will be fully recovered, and an additional five times the amount will be collected as a penalty.
Separately from the audit, last month, five individuals including Mr. A were reported to the Busan Police Agency’s Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit.
